Monadnock Paper Mills is promoting its Ultrahide PC 100 Blockout Poster as a paper-based alternative to PVC vinyl and other synthetic materials used in retail signage.

The product is aimed at retailers and brands looking to reduce the use of vinyl, synthetics and single-use plastics in store environments, while still meeting requirements for visual quality and durability.

Monadnock said the substrate is designed for in-store signage, window graphics and retail promotional displays. It is made from 100% post-consumer recycled fibre and is FSC-certified, processed chlorine-free and California Proposition 65 compliant. The company added that it is compatible with mixed paper recycling streams, depending on inks, coatings, laminations and local recycling guidelines.

According to Monadnock, the product was developed to give retailers a more sustainable material option without sacrificing print performance.

“Retail buyers are prioritizing materials that align with corporate sustainability commitments while still delivering strong visual performance,” said Julie Brannen, director, sales and sustainable solutions at Monadnock Paper Mills. “Ultrahide was designed to help brands transition away from vinyl and synthetic signage while still delivering the opacity, image quality, and installation performance they expect.”

The company said Ultrahide PC 100 delivers 100% opacity to prevent show-through in double-sided applications. It also features a smooth, uncoated matte surface intended to support high-resolution graphics, colour reproduction and image quality across a range of wide-format printing technologies.

Monadnock added that the material is available in rolls up to 96.5 inches wide by 500 feet long. It described this as the only paper-based, non-PVC blockout poster substrate available at that width, making it suitable for oversized retail graphics such as double-width window displays. The wider format is also intended to help print providers improve production efficiency and reduce trim waste.

The company said the product combines recycled content, recyclability, compliance credentials and large-format capability for retail and print businesses looking to reduce the environmental impact of storefront graphics.
