UK wide-format specialist Tiato has continued its recent expansion with the installation of a Canon Colorado M5W UVgel printer and a Mimaki CJV200-160 eco-solvent device, both supplied by CMYUK.
The investment follows a year of operational change for the business, which began with the installation of a JWEI digital cutting table in early 2024 and a subsequent move to larger premises designed to support a more efficient, parallel production workflow. The introduction of automated finishing has allowed print and post-print processes to run simultaneously, helping the company take on more complex and time-sensitive work.
At the centre of the latest upgrade is the Canon Colorado M5W, Canon’s flagship 1.6m UVgel platform. Capable of high-speed output while maintaining consistent print quality, the system has significantly reduced turnaround times for Tiato’s retail-focused work. According to founder Tim Tomblin, production that previously required overnight running can now be completed during the working day, enabling faster delivery of multi-roll campaigns.
“We process lots of flexible Ferro paper, which works with magnetic surfaces, and produce anything between four and eight rolls for retail campaign rollouts,” said Mr Tomblin. “The Canon Colorado has really speeded this up; we’re now able to print four rolls a day, whereas before we were printing one roll overnight, and a single roll during the day, it’s ridiculous the time savings we’ve made on this.”
The M5W has also expanded the range of applications the business can confidently deliver, including high-volume retail graphics produced to tight deadlines. Features such as white ink capability and Canon’s FLXfinish+ technology allow Tiato to produce matt, gloss, or mixed-finish outputs in a single pass, supporting current trends in premium retail display.
Alongside the Canon installation, Tiato has replaced a decade-old printer with a Mimaki CJV200-160, reinforcing a long-standing relationship with the brand. The roll-to-roll device is now dedicated to specialist graphics and vehicle wrap work, offering improved calibration, quieter operation, and familiar handling for the production team.
The new equipment has been installed at Tiato’s expanded facility, which provides the space to manage multiple production stages without interruption, including indoor vehicle wrapping.
With the upgraded production line in place, Tiato is positioning itself to handle a broader mix of work at higher volumes, while maintaining the flexibility needed to respond quickly to customer demands.
