James Cropper Paper & Packaging has appointed Mike Gibson as head of business development as the company targets growth in new markets and new product opportunities.

Mr Gibson joined the business earlier this year as business development manager and brings more than 25 years of experience across the paper, packaging, and corrugated sectors. His background spans carrier bags, food and merchant packaging, and senior commercial roles both in the UK and internationally. He has worked at Cepac, H-Pack, and ARC International in the US, where he collaborated with corrugators across the country and contributed to projects including Marks & Spencer’s paper bag for life.

“James Cropper is an exceptional name in the industry, with a heritage that spans centuries. Its reputation precedes it, and being part of this prestigious company really appealed to me,” said Mr Gibson. “It’s an exciting time at James Cropper. The business has a rich heritage, and now it’s evolving for the modern era. I’m thrilled to be part of that transformation.”

His appointment follows the launch of the company’s Coloursource brand of paper materials. James Cropper says Mr Gibson’s experience across both premium and everyday packaging, combined with his global perspective, will support efforts to meet a broader range of customer needs and strengthen the company’s relevance in changing markets.

“The senior leadership team is developing strategies and products that many in the industry may not yet realise we offer,” added Mr Gibson. “Our goal is to ensure customers fully understand our capabilities, providing everyday essentials while maintaining the premium, made-in-the-UK standards James Cropper is known for.”

The company has also named Julia Lawrence as head of regional accounts, joining Mickael Minot, who was appointed brand owner director earlier this year. The three now report directly to managing director Paul Barber as the business completes a restructuring of its sales team.

“We are delighted to appoint Mike as head of business development,” said Mr Barber. “His extensive experience across the paper, packaging and corrugate industries, combined with a strong track record of innovation and market growth, makes him the perfect addition as we accelerate into new markets. James Cropper is entering a new phase of growth… the business is well-positioned to capitalise on emerging market opportunities.”
