Print Scotland, the long-established trade association for the country’s print sector, has appointed Michiel Molenaar, a director at Irvine-based bespoke packaging company Kennedy Smith, as its new president – a position he will hold for a minimum two-year term.
Succeeding Susan Graham of FLB, Mr Molenaar said he was honoured to take on the presidency. He noted that approaching the industry from a different perspective – having a background in agriculture – has helped him recognise the opportunities available to print businesses across Scotland. He said that Print Scotland will continue adapting to market conditions, embracing new printing technologies, and focusing on productivity improvements.
He commented: “There are many challenges ahead and lots to do but still great opportunities for businesses who innovate and grab the opportunities in front of them. I am determined that we should recruit more members from the plethora of businesses in Scotland who use print in whatever format.”
Outgoing president Susan Graham welcomed the appointment: “Print Scotland is delighted to have as its new president an industry leader with a hugely successful background in the packaging sector and the determination and drive to take our industry forward.”
Print Scotland also announced that Richard McCombe, managing director of Coatbridge-based Graphic Warehouse, has been named vice president. Director Garry Richmond highlighted the continued relevance of print in Scotland, both culturally and commercially. He noted that despite digital media’s dominance, print remains integral to national life, with a heritage dating back to the 16th century and ongoing importance across publishing, packaging, signage, and promotional products. Mr Richmond added that print’s tactile nature continues to offer a unique form of engagement for consumers.
