Manchester-based Ainsley Signs is preparing for expansion into new markets following the installation of a Generation 5 Nyala flatbed printer from swissQprint. The latest investment is intended to support the company’s plans to grow its presence across retail, design, and trade sectors.

A key element of the company’s growth strategy is the addition of new production technology. The Nyala 5 flatbed printer, equipped with roll-to-roll capability and CMYK, white, and varnish, has broadened the firm’s ability to handle a wider range of substrates, including aluminium composite material, Foamex, and acrylics. Its modular design also allows Ainsley Signs to add further colours or applications as requirements evolve.

Founded in 1952, Ainsley Signs has long served the residential construction industry. With an ambition to triple turnover within five years, managing director Dale Broadhead – who joined the business 12 months ago – is overseeing a programme of strategic investment.

“The Nyala enables us to move into sectors like retail, design, and trade, enhancing our print quality,” said Mr Broadhead. “It really demonstrates what we can offer to a new group of blue-chip customers.”

Mr Broadhead noted that the Nyala had been on his radar prior to joining Ainsley Signs. In discussions with co-owner and director Josh Ainsley, he discovered a shared enthusiasm for the machine’s creative potential. “It was a printer he wanted, and he really liked its endless creative possibilities,” Mr Broadhead said. “Our team are very excited about the Nyala, which is great to see. It reflects our passion for print and for making signs.”

Introduced earlier this year, the Nyala 5 offers an average 23% increase in speed compared to the previous model, and in some quality modes delivers over 80% faster output. With print speeds up to 253sqm/hr, it combines productivity with consistent quality, reliability, and sustainability features.

Further investment is planned, including an expansion of the company’s Middleton site to double capacity, as well as new finishing equipment. Ian Maxfield, regional sales manager at swissQprint UK, said: “Ainsley Signs is eager to grow into markets that demand higher quality and fast turnaround. The Nyala 5 offers robust production capabilities while supporting environmental goals. We’re pleased to welcome Ainsley as the latest UK user of this next-generation technology.”
