Mountain Print has boosted its production capability with the installation of a Mimaki JFX500-2131 UV LED flatbed printer and a JWEI JCUT-3230 digital cutting table, supplied by CMYUK. The investment coincides with the company’s move into a new 6000sqft facility, supporting increased throughput, and providing space for future growth.

Owner Darrell Mountain said the upgrades came at a time of rising demand. “This year has been record-breaking for us on print with the onboarding of several new clients,” he said. “We recognised the necessity of expanding our in-house services to meet tighter deadlines and ensure quality control. This latest investment allows us to better service our clients and maintain the high standards they expect without being forced to outsource work.”

The relocation has also sharpened responsiveness for clients, particularly those in London. “With the majority of our work based in London along with our partnerships with various London venues, relocation has allowed us to be more responsive for last minute requests,” said Mr Mountain. The larger, purpose-built site has improved workflow, production space, and storage capacity, he added.

Mountain Print selected the Mimaki flatbed based on strong performance from its existing Mimaki UJV55-320 roll-to-roll printers. The addition of white ink printing has been a key development for the business. “The output of what we can do from the new printer is incredible. The white ink has just enhanced capabilities in-house for our clients, which we’ve never had before,” said Mr Mountain, noting that such work previously needed to be outsourced.

Finishing capability has been transformed by the JWEI table, which offers a 3.2m width, high speed and automatic tool changing. “We’ve saved 80% of labour just by transitioning to the flatbed, printing direct to substrate and then cutting,” Mr Mountain explained. The company now handles SEG textiles, card, custom boxes, sign trays and even acrylic cutting in-house. “There’s nothing we produce that doesn’t go through the JWEI… it’s an absolute ravenous beast.”

With expanded floorspace and enhanced production tools, the company is now looking ahead. “There’s nothing we can’t do in-house now. The next thing would possibly be a wider printer, bringing in another level of service and opportunity.”
