Swiss media company rubmedia has commissioned a new digital printing line from Heidelberg at its recently opened site in Köniz, near Bern.

The new setup includes a Jetfire 50 and a Versafire LV from Heidelberg along with a third-party postpress system. Rubmedia is also adopting Prinect Business Manager and Prinect Production Manager software to support commercial and production workflow automation.

The investment forms part of an internal project to relocate and restructure the company’s print operations. According to rubmedia, the objective was to implement a cost-efficient, automated, and high-quality solution. At the Köniz facility, the company plans to produce personalised print products and short-run work, while the Versafire LV will also be used for items such as business cards, envelopes, and flyers.

By integrating the Jetfire and Versafire systems with Prinect software, rubmedia aims to create a workflow that spans order intake, production, and postpress processes.

“We decided on the digital printing solutions from Heidelberg because we were impressed by the company’s wide-ranging service promise and the systems’ suitability for integration into an overall workflow with Prinect,” said Michel Kläy, deputy managing director and partner at rubmedia. “Automation enables orders to be processed quickly, reduces paper waste, and delivers a level of quality that matches offset printing.”

David Schmedding, chief technology and sales officer at Heidelberg, commented: “The latest Jetfire system to be successfully installed in Switzerland underlines the strength of our industrial portfolio. Our customers are increasingly impressed by our digital ecosystem – especially for applications involving personalised and high-quality short runs. We promise best-in-class service, end-to-end integration, and a high level of automation for cost-effective print production.”

Rubmedia employs around 35 staff and provides communication services for clients in sectors including associations, industry, and politics.
