Chili has released publisher 4.5, which it says gives users even more tools to enhance the way documents are created and published in any format, in any environment.

‘Chili publisher is included in the workflows of hundreds of customers who work in a variety of markets around the world. Though their products and businesses are different, these customers use publisher to meet a common goal; provide their end users with a robust design and editing experience while ensuring that brand and design consistency are always maintained,’ said Bram Verniest, chief operating officer.

The software enables users to use different versions of a document and to see how changes to one version affects other versions. A user can view different sizes of an advertisement, and can see in real time how changes like adding more text will affect other versions of that advertisement.

The version also applies 3D folding for alternate layouts, where each layout design can be verified in 3D folding to check if the dimensions are correct.

Its new Dynamic Asset Provider (DAP) framework enables the use of dynamic images from external sources via a ‘URL feed’ in the Editor. A dynamic image is an image that is updated in real-time through variable information provided by the publisher Editor.

This framework has now been extended to connect to any service that is accessible via a URL, enabling businesses to access the most current information driven by numbers or data. A company’s quarterly financial reports, for example, would use charts to highlight revenue growth that occurred in that time period.

It allows users to have automatic updates of information such as charts or diagrams using numbers of percentages in an Excel file. In this example data would come from the Excel file into the attached data field associated with the chart of diagram, saving time and ensuring the accuracy of the data presented in the chart or diagram.

Mr Verniest concluded, ‘We continuously strive to anticipate the pace of this fast moving environment, trying to address the challenges marketeers and publishers experience in terms of ad hoc publishing opportunities within rapidly evolving IT environments. This latest update is a crucial one, as it shows both the stability of our solution, and the progress we’re making as our customers’ needs evolve.’
