Heidelberg’s updated digital product portfolio

Heidelberg has rebranded its digital product portfolio under the Fire brand and added a multi-channel output module to its Prinect workflow portfolio.

Leading the line up is the new Primefire 106 B1 inkjet press. http://bit.ly/20Qokkk

Also included under the new branding are the Versafire range of cut sheet toner-based digital presses (previously Linoprint), the Omnifire 250 and 1000 direct to shape 4D printers http://bit.ly/1Qc3cDK (previously the Jetmaster Dimension) and the Gallus Labelfire 340 digital label press (previously the Gallus DCS 340).

Media Manager is a new Prinect module that can output files supplied as PDFs as dynamic web pages, including those formatted for mobile phones.

‘We see Prinect as an anchor point for our customers going out to all media,’ said Heidelberg member of the management board responsible for equipment Stephan Plenz. ‘If printers just focus on ink on paper it may be the end of them.’

The firm also revealed that it is close to selling its 1000th toner-based digital press since signing its deal with Ricoh five years ago in February 2011, and expects to have exceeded that figure by drupa in June.

‘We are the only ‘conventional’ press manufacturer to have successfully sold digital,’ said Heidelberg head of digital Jason Oliver. ‘We are close to reaching a total of 1000 systems, that is because customers trust us as a sales and technology company.’

Mr Oliver also said that since launching its own digital front end for its presses, the Prinect DFE, which is common across all its digital devices, more than 90% of those were driven by its own workflow.
