The Tornado Autopunch EX
Rhin-O-Tuff has launched the world’s first automated collating punch system, the Tornado Autopunch EX, which can automatically feed, collate, punch and deliver offset book stacks ready for binding in a single platform.
Developed in partnership with BDT Print Media headquartered in Rottweil, Germany, the new system will save punch and bind service providers up to 40% in process efficiency. The company will debut the Tornado Autopunch EX at drupa 2016 in Dusseldorf, Germany. The machine is a versatile solution for on-demand print environments. The system can reliably feed covers/index tabs/inserts and internal document pages from 60 to 312 gsm.
BDT’s patented Tornado technology addresses hard to run media such as plastic, coated covers (vinyl or leatherette), and heavily printed media. The Tornado Autopunch EX system consists of two media interposer bins (up to 15 mm or .59″) and one high capacity main bin that holds up to 2500 sheets. The system allows a printer to load front/back cover media in one interposer bin and index tabs in the second bin. The document sheets are printed and loaded into the main bin.
John Lugviel, vice president of business development said, ‘The Rhin-O-Tuff Tornado Autopunch EX is a major step forward in automating what today are mostly manual steps in the layflat book binding process. We are able to take what are now five steps and reduce them to one – key to improving printer’s throughput. By automating the interposing, collating and punching processes, the new system enables concurrent operations to run with the same or less labour. It’s the first collating punch – truly a major improvement for punch and bind finishing in many years.’
